Imphal : BJP leader Yumnam Khemchand Singh was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Manipur on Wednesday. BJP leaders Nemcha Kipgen and Losii Dikho took oath as Deputy Chief Ministers. The oath-taking ceremony was held virtually. Nemcha Kipgen took oath from Manipur Bhavan in New Delhi
Speaking to KRC TIMES after taking charge, Khemchand Singh said he has been given a big responsibility and will carry it out with full sincerity. He thanked the BJP leadership for trusting him. He said he hopes all 36 communities in Manipur will come together for the development of the state.
The new Chief Minister said peace and development will guide the new government. He added that the path towards Viksit Bharat and Viksit Manipur will not be easy, but the government will remain focused on its goals.
Khemchand Singh is a senior organisational leader and a long-time RSS worker. He has held several key posts in Manipur in the past. He is also known for his contribution to sports.
A black belt in Taekwondo, he served as vice-president of the Taekwondo Federation of India and played a role in promoting the sport in the Northeast.
He entered electoral politics in 2012 on an All India Trinamool Congress ticket but lost. He joined the BJP in 2013.
Born in Singjamei Yumnam Leikai, Khemchand Singh passed his HSLC in 1978 from Ram Lal Paul High School in Imphal. He is married and has a son.

The Chief Minister said the aspirations of all communities will be respected. While he belongs to the Meitei community, his deputies Nemcha Kipgen and Losii Dikho represent the Kuki and Naga communities. This, he said, reflects social balance in the new government.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Khemchand Singh on taking oath as Chief Minister. He also congratulated Nemcha Kipgen and Losii Dikho on becoming Deputy Chief Ministers, and Konthoujam Govindas Singh and Khuraijam Loken Singh on being sworn in as ministers. The Prime Minister said he is confident the new team will work for the development and prosperity of the people of Manipur.
