Cachar Administration Cites Safety Concerns
KRC TIMES Barak Valley Bureau
Silchar: In a bid to prevent mishaps and ensure public safety, the Cachar District Administration has imposed restrictions on public access to select tourist locations in the Sindura area under Katigorah Revenue Circle. The move follows a risk assessment that flagged these sites as vulnerable due to inadequate safety infrastructure and lack of disaster preparedness.
Invoking powers under Section 34 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, the District Commissioner on Wednesday ordered an immediate ban on public entry until further notice. The administration noted that unregulated access in the absence of adequate safeguards poses a serious threat to visitors.
To ensure strict enforcement, the Circle Officer of Katigorah, Block Development Officers of Kalain and Katigorah, as well as Officers-in-Charge of the respective police stations, outposts, and Village Defence Parties have been directed to implement the order without delay. Continuous monitoring will be undertaken by the Kalain Outpost and Katigorah Police Station, and any breach will invite strict action under the Disaster Management Act and other applicable laws.
Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the Cachar administration has assured that the sites will only reopen after essential infrastructure and disaster management systems are put in place. Residents and tourists have been urged to cooperate and avoid visiting the restricted areas during this period.
The order reflects the administration’s proactive stance on disaster risk mitigation and underscores its resolve to uphold safety and public order. All relevant departments have been instructed to submit periodic compliance reports to the District Commissioner to ensure coordinated implementation of the directive.
