Silchar: In a significant move to promote road safety and responsible civic behaviour, the Cachar District Administration launched a month-long road safety awareness campaign on Friday. District Commissioner Mridul Yadav, IAS, flagged off the campaign from the premises of the DC’s office, marking the beginning of a district-wide initiative aimed at sensitising the public on safe commuting practices.
Organised under the aegis of the District Road Safety Committee, the campaign seeks to foster behavioural change through grassroots participation and outreach across educational institutions, public hubs, and rural areas. A specially designed mobile tableau was launched during the inaugural event, which will traverse all seven legislative constituencies and 15 development blocks of Cachar throughout August.
The launch event was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Antara Sen, ACS, District Transport Officer Ramesh Shyam, Assistant Commissioner Bonnykha Chetia, ACS, and senior district officials. Volunteers from Netaji Chhatra Yuba Sangstha, including their General Secretary Dilu Das, also participated actively.
Speaking at the inauguration, DC Mridul Yadav emphasised the importance of community involvement in promoting road safety. “Road safety is not merely a government responsibility; it is a shared civic duty. Through this campaign, we aim to reach every section of society and make them conscious of the small yet critical steps that can prevent accidents and save lives,” he said.
The campaign will feature a range of awareness activities including the distribution of leaflets, road safety-themed songs, public messages, and interactive engagements focused on the “Five Golden Rules of Road Safety.” On the opening day, volunteers were seen at major traffic points in Silchar distributing materials and encouraging commuters to follow traffic norms.
Running from August 1 to 31, the campaign reflects a collaborative effort between the district administration and civil society. Officials hope that the initiative will foster a lasting change in public attitudes and contribute to a tangible reduction in avoidable road incidents.
With this comprehensive drive, the Cachar administration—under the leadership of DC Mridul Yadav—seeks to instil a sense of accountability among citizens, underscoring that road safety is a collective responsibility.
