Silchar : Residents of Shiv Colony in Rangirkhari, Silchar, have once again urged the district administration to grant land pattas (ownership titles) to 84 families who have been residing in the area for several years as legitimate settlers.
On Thursday, a delegation comprising Kajal Roy, social worker Lipika Roy, Basudev Saha, Ratna Halder, Dhananjay Malakar, Pinku Roy, and Bireshwar Saha met Additional District Commissioner Khaleda Sultana Ahmed Barbhuiya at the Development Office. They submitted a memorandum requesting immediate action to provide legal ownership documents to the affected families.
The delegation highlighted the difficulties faced by the residents due to the lack of land titles, which has prevented them from building or renovating their homes. “Despite living here for years, these families are caught in legal limbo due to the absence of official documents,” said one of the representatives.
The residents also plan to approach Minister Kaushik Rai, Silchar MP Parimal Suklabaidya, Rajya Sabha MP Kanad Purkayastha, and Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty to seek their intervention. They have called upon Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma to look into the matter sympathetically and expedite the land regularisation process.
The families expressed hope that the Chief Minister’s timely involvement would bring long-overdue relief and formal recognition to their struggle for land rights.
