Over 4,600 Girl Students in Silchar to Benefit

Silchar: In a landmark move to empower girl students through education, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma officially launched the transformative Nijut Moina Aasoni 2.0 on Wednesday at Gauhati University. The initiative, which aims to uplift the educational prospects of lakhs of girls across the state, marks a significant step in the government’s mission to build a more self-reliant and inclusive Assam.

In Silchar, the ceremonial distribution of application forms was conducted at Gurucharan University, where local MLA Dipayan Chakraborty led the proceedings.
The event was graced by several dignitaries, including Prof. Niranjan Roy, Vice-Chancellor of Gurucharan University; Antara Sen, Additional District Commissioner of Cachar; Prof. Bidhyut Paul, Registrar (Academic); and Prof. Abhijit Nath, Registrar (Administration).
From the Silchar constituency alone, a total of 4,606 girl students are set to benefit from Nijut Moina Aasoni 2.0. The beneficiaries are enrolled across various colleges and higher secondary institutions in the region:
Colleges:
- Gurucharan College – 1,728 students
- Cachar College – 768 students
- Radhamadhab College – 518 students
- Silchar College – 235 students
- Women’s College – 751 students
Higher Secondary Schools:
- Adharchand HS School – 40 students
- DBTR HS School – 27 students
- Netaji Vidya Bhawan – 32 students
- Zilkadar Ali HS School – 260 students
- Public HS School – 151 students
- AC Memorial HS School – 96 students
Addressing the occasion, MLA Dipayan Chakraborty expressed his gratitude to the Chief Minister for expanding the scheme and reiterated his commitment to furthering girls’ education in the Barak Valley region.
“Nijut Moina is not just a scheme—it is a movement to shape a brighter future for our daughters, giving them the strength to dream and the means to achieve,” Chakraborty said.
Nijut Moina Aasoni 2.0 is part of the Assam government’s broader educational reforms, aiming to provide financial and institutional support to underprivileged girl students. With its implementation, the initiative hopes to drastically reduce dropout rates and encourage higher participation of girls in secondary and tertiary education.
