Silchar: The Cachar District Committee of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), on Monday, organized a condolence and tribute programme at Trunk Road, Silchar, to mourn the demise of India’s popular singer, actor, producer, and the heartbeat of Assam’s music world, Zubeen Garg. Members of the AGP central and district committees paid their respects by offering floral tributes at the portrait of the late legendary artist.

Speaking on the occasion, AGP Cachar District Secretary Maniton Singha said Zubeen Garg was popularly known as the “Prince of Northeast India” and was among the most respected artists of Assam. His versatile talent and contributions to music earned him a unique place in South Asia’s musical landscape. He was also known in public life as a secular thinker and a powerful protest voice of Assam.
Nekbub Hussen Laskar, Secretary of the AGP Youth Council Central Committee, said Zubeen Garg was a sharp social protest artist who used his music and political statements to raise his voice against social injustice, exploitation, and wrongdoing.
Among others present at the tribute programme were Ibungobi Singh, Central Executive Member H. Ibungobi Singh, District Assistant Secretary Rumim Mazarbhuiya, Minority Council District Secretary Abdul Rahman Laskar, Krishak Parishad District Secretary Khaled Mazumdar, Lakhipur Legislative Council Secretary Bidyut Bilas Singh, Silchar Legislative Council Secretary Rupesh Sinha, Sonai Legislative Council Secretary Jamil Ahmed Barbhuiya, Abdul Taher Choudhury, Hibzur Rahman Talukdar, Nur Ahmed Barbhuiya, and several others.
