Silchar: People across communities, languages, and faiths came together in Barak Valley to honour the late legendary artist Zubeen Garg. Various organizations have been holding memorial events, with attendees observing silence or lighting candles in prayer for his soul’s eternal peace.
On Monday evening, the prominent Barak Valley theatre group Bhabikal organized a condolence meeting at their office at Das Colony, Silchar. Director Santanu Paul said that words cannot capture the grief over Zubeen Garg’s untimely passing.
Subrata Roy described his death as a “fall of a star,” noting that Zubeen’s artistry and selfless love drew people from all walks of life, bridging communities and social divides. He called Zubeen a truly compassionate human and a courageous artist.
Sayantani Paul highlighted that while Zubeen was renowned as a singer, his acting talent was equally remarkable, making his loss a significant one for the theater world. Pallab Bhattacharjee recalled Zubeen’s famous remark, “I have no caste, no religion. I am free,” emphasizing the courage it takes to make such a statement in today’s society.
The programme concluded with a minute of silence, as attendees prayed for the eternal peace of the beloved artist’s soul, celebrating his enduring legacy in both music and theatre.
