Barak Valley in-charge Kh. Bimalendu Singha urged the new members to uphold the principles and ideals of the party

Silchar: In a ceremony held at the AGP’s Cachar district office on Trunk Road, Silchar, around 150 workers formally resigned from the Congress party and joined the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) on Thursday evening.
Among those who joined were noted social worker and founder of a widely-read online portal Sarika Azmi Barbhuiya, Congress’s Cachar District Vommittee General Secretary and former regional panchayat member Akhtar Hussain Laskar, along with many workers from Sonai, Dholai, Silchar, and Udharbond areas.
The joining ceremony was attended by AGP Central Committee General Secretaries and Barak Valley in-charges Kh.. Bimalendu Singha and Sunil Deka, District President Kabir Ahmed Barbhuiya, Central Youth Committee Secretary Nekbub Hussain Laskar, Central Minority Committee Secretary Ayesha Sultana Choudhury, District Secretary Haidar Hussain Laskar, and District Krishak Parishad’s Committee Convenor Ahmed Sahid Barbhuiya, among others.
The event began with a condolence tribute to the recently deceased popular artist Zubeen Garg.
AGP Central Committee General Secretary Sunil Deka said that the AGP is committed to protecting Assam’s regional identity, language, culture, and social rights. He emphasized that stopping illegal infiltration, ensuring cultural protection, and promoting regional development remain the party’s main goals.

Barak Valley in-charge Kh. Bimalendu Singha urged the new members to uphold the principles and ideals of the party. District President Kabir Ahmed Barbhuiya instructed party workers to actively engage in the upcoming Silchar Municipal Corporation elections.
Minority Committee Secretary Ayesha Sultana Choudhury stated that AGP is a party that stands for securing just rights irrespective of caste, creed, religion, or language, and it continues to be a symbol of trust for the people of Assam.
Joining member and social worker Sarika Azmi Barbhuiya said that the sacrifice of 886 martyrs during the AGP movement built political credibility, and that working with the party will further strengthen public support and the democratic process.
The meeting was conducted by District Secretaries Maniton Singha and Sujit Sharma. Also present were Udharbond Vice President Rajesh Singh, Rongpur Block Committee President Moin Uddin Laskar, Silchar Legislative Committee Secretary Rupesh Sinha, Working President Dipon Bhattacharjee, Lakhipur Legislative Committee Secretary Bidyut Singh, Sonai Legislative Committee Secretary Jamil Laskar, and lawyer Riazul Haque Barbhuiya, among others.
