Silchar: The Department of Biotechnology at Assam University, Silchar, held a career awareness programme on forensic science on Monday in collaboration with the Sherlock Institute of Forensic Sciences.
The session, titled Forensic Science: Opportunities for Emerging Minds, took place at the Conference Hall of the Department of Life Sciences and Bioinformatics. The goal was to help students understand current career tracks and new developments in the field.
In her welcome address, Prof Mahuya Sengupta, Head of the Department of Biotechnology, spoke about the expanding opportunities in forensic science and thanked the Sherlock Institute for partnering in the initiative. She also acknowledged the Department of Life Sciences and Bioinformatics for hosting the event.
Experts from the Sherlock Institute walked students through the growing scope of forensic biology, DNA analysis, cyber forensics, and other specialised areas. They outlined the rising demand for trained professionals across law enforcement, legal consultancies, and government laboratories.
An interactive segment allowed students from biotechnology and life sciences to ask questions on academic pathways, skill requirements, and potential research options in the field.
Postgraduate students, research scholars, and faculty members attended the programme.
