Silchar: The North Eastern Integration Rally (NEIR) 2026 will arrive in Silchar on January 22, coinciding with the Barak Festival 2026. The announcement was made by the organisers, KRC Foundations, at a press conference held at the Silchar Press Club on Monday.
Addressing the media, NEIR organising committee member Bhaskar Das said the month-long rally, led by Biswadeep Gupta, was flagged off from Kolkata on January 4. Since then, it has been travelling through several northeastern states with the aim of promoting unity, integration, and mutual understanding among diverse communities.

The rally will be formally received in Silchar at Gandhi Bhawan with a flag-in ceremony, accompanied by the rendition of the National Song Vande Mataram. Das noted that 2026 marks the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram, lending added historical and cultural significance to the event.
A cultural programme and felicitation ceremony will also be held at Gandhi Bhawan the same day as part of the Barak Festival celebrations.
On January 23, marking the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, the rally, referred to as the Netaji Rally, will be flagged off from Silchar for Hailakandi district. It will then proceed to Sribhumi district, where participants will pay homage to martyrs at the Malegarh War Memorial in Latu. The rally will be formally received there by the commandant of the memorial.
In Sribhumi district, the Barak Festival will be observed as a five-day event featuring art competitions and various cultural contests. The prize distribution ceremony is scheduled for January 24 at Rajiv Bhawan, followed by the closing ceremony, which will include a felicitation programme and cultural performances.
Organising committee members Biswajit Roy and Jayanta Roy Choudhury described the rally and the festival as timely and meaningful initiatives. They said the NEIR would serve as a platform to bring people from different backgrounds together and strengthen regional bonds. Silchar Press Club general secretary Shankar Dey was also present at the press conference.
