NEW DELHI: Former West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee was detained by Delhi Police on Saturday while attempting to join a protest in the national capital. Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and a former Kerala Chief Minister were also reported to have been detained.

Banerjee was detained along with five TMC MPs, including Derek O’Brien and Dola Sen, from South Avenue in central Delhi. The TMC chief had staged a sit-in protest at a bus stop after police stopped her from proceeding further.

The protesters were later taken away in a police bus. During the protest, Banerjee was seen sitting with a band-aid over her mouth, drawing attention to the demonstration.
