New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Margaret Alva on Monday expressed her disagreement with the protest staged by the Indian Youth Congress during the India AI Impact Summit held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi last week.

Alva stressed the need for maintaining dignity and discipline during international events. She said such occasions demand a sense of responsibility from all stakeholders.

“I think at international events there has to be dignity, there has to be discipline, and there has to be a sense of responsibility,” she told reporters.

While distancing herself from the approach taken by the party’s youth wing, Alva later clarified that she remains fully committed to the Congress.

Her remarks make her the first senior leader from the principal opposition party to publicly differ with the protest, which has otherwise received backing from several leaders seen as close to the party leadership.
