Silchar: In a step aimed at improving facilities for patient attendants, a dedicated rest room will soon be constructed for relatives of patients admitted to the ICU and Central ICU at Silchar Medical College and Hospital.

The initiative has been taken by Silchar Lok Sabha MP and Chairman of Silchar Medical College and Hospital, Parimal Suklabaidya, in response to the difficulties faced by families who often have to wait long hours, and sometimes spend nights in hospital corridors due to the absence of proper resting arrangements.

The rest room will be built using funds from the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS). The facility is intended to provide comfort, convenience and better hygiene for attendants of critically ill patients who remain at the hospital for extended periods.

According to officials, the proposed facility will include separate toilets for men and women along with other basic amenities. The arrangement is expected to help families, particularly those travelling from distant areas, stay near their loved ones with greater ease and dignity during treatment.

On Wednesday, following the MP’s direction, the Principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, along with Superintendent Dr. Bikash Sandilya and other officials associated with the MPLADS fund, visited the proposed project site and reviewed the plan for the construction.

Officials said the initiative forms part of broader efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in the region. Several development works are currently underway at the medical college, including the construction of a Super Specialty Hospital.

Once completed, the new rest room facility is expected to provide much needed relief to families of patients undergoing critical care treatment at the hospital.
