Dholai: In a major political development in southern Assam, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Amiya Kanti Das has secured a record-breaking victory in the Dholai assembly constituency. Riding on a strong wave of support, Das defeated his nearest rival, Congress candidate Dhrubajyoti Purkayastha, by a massive margin of 44,462 votes, one of the highest in the region.

The emphatic win reflects a decisive mandate in favour of the BJP in the constituency. Political observers say the scale of the victory points to both strong organisational backing and voter confidence in the party’s leadership at the grassroots level.

Soon after the results were declared on Monday, Das made his way to the foothills of Bhuvan Hills, where he offered prayers and sought blessings from Bhuvan Baba. The visit carried symbolic weight, blending faith with the start of his new political responsibility.

Without much delay, the newly elected MLA shifted focus to public outreach. Late into the night, Das travelled through several remote and interior areas of the constituency, meeting residents and listening to their concerns. His effort to connect directly with people continued into Tuesday morning, signalling an active start to his tenure.

Addressing locals during his visits, Das struck a conciliatory tone. He assured that his work would not be limited by political lines. “Those who voted for me and those who did not, all will receive equal support,” he said. He emphasised that his primary goal is the overall development of Dholai, with special attention to ensuring that government schemes reach every eligible beneficiary.

Das also highlighted key priorities going forward, including infrastructure improvement, better access to public services, and development across sectors such as education, healthcare, and rural connectivity. His remarks indicate a focus on both immediate needs and long-term growth.

The result has generated visible excitement across the Dholai constituency. Supporters celebrated the victory, while many residents expressed hope that the new leadership would bring tangible change. The scale of the mandate has also raised expectations, placing the spotlight firmly on delivery.

As Dholai enters a new political phase, all eyes are now on how the promises made during and after the campaign translate into action on the ground.
