Imphal : The second National Lok Adalat of the 2026 calendar year in Manipur resolved 229 cases involving settlements worth Rs 3,18,40,938 during proceedings held across District Courts and the High Court of Manipur on Saturday.
The Lok Adalat dealt with both pre-litigation disputes and pending civil matters, including original suits, money recovery cases, bank recovery disputes, matrimonial cases, Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) matters and other civil-related issues.
The programme was organised by the Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) in association with the High Court Legal Services Committee and various District Legal Services Authorities.
Justice A Bimol Singh and Justice A Guneshwar Sharma reviewed the proceedings during the event. Justice A Bimol Singh stated that 37 pending court cases and nearly 2,385 pre-litigation matters had been placed before the Lok Adalat for settlement.
While distributing Lok Adalat awards to parties who successfully resolved their disputes, he observed that conventional litigation often involves prolonged legal procedures and significant expenses, with some cases continuing for several years or even decades.
He said Lok Adalat provides a faster, cost-effective and amicable mechanism for resolving disputes and reducing the burden on courts.
Justice Singh also highlighted the increasing role of mediation and other Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms in Manipur, stating that such processes are playing an important role in reducing case backlogs in the judiciary.
The National Lok Adalat was conducted simultaneously across courts in the state as part of efforts to promote speedy and accessible justice through alternative dispute resolution methods.
