GUWAHATI: The Union Home Ministry has designated Hatisar in Assam as a temporary authorised immigration post to facilitate the movement of Bhutanese and third-country nationals travelling to Bhutan to attend an international event, Project 108.
The event is being organised at Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC), located in Bhutan’s Sarpang district along the Assam border.
Under Project 108, a total of 108 Jangchub Chortens, or Buddhist stupas, will be built and raised together in a single day. The event is expected to attract Bhutanese visitors, Buddhist monks and teachers from different parts of the world.
The temporary immigration facility at Hatisar is aimed at ensuring smooth cross-border movement for participants attending the event. The move is expected to ease travel arrangements for visitors entering Bhutan through Assam.
The designation of Hatisar as a temporary authorised immigration post highlights the role of Assam’s border infrastructure in facilitating international movement and regional cooperation during major events in neighbouring Bhutan.
