Guwahati: Opposition members staged a walkout during proceedings in Guwahati while protesting the Women’s Reservation Bill, stating that although they support reservation for women, they oppose linking it to the process of delimitation.

Opposition leader Jakir Hussain Sikdar alleged that the BJP was using the measure as a pretext to carry out delimitation ahead of the 2029 elections for political advantage.

He claimed that the proposed move could be politically motivated and expressed concern over its possible impact on electoral representation.The ruling BJP, however, denied the allegations and maintained that the Women’s Reservation Bill is aimed at ensuring greater political participation and representation for women.

The issue led to heated exchanges in the House before opposition members staged a walkout in protest.
