KOHIMA : Neiphiu Rio on Friday chaired a high-level meeting to review monsoon preparedness in Nagaland, stressing the importance of coordinated action and timely response to potential weather-related disruptions during the rainy season.

The meeting brought together officials from multiple government departments along with representatives of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to assess the readiness of critical infrastructure and essential public services across the state.

Discussions focused on infrastructure preparedness, emergency response systems, healthcare support mechanisms and the availability of essential commodities during periods of heavy rainfall and possible disruptions.

The Chief Minister reviewed measures being undertaken to address monsoon-related risks, including road blockages, landslides, flooding and disruptions to transportation and supply chains.

Officials also examined contingency plans and emergency response strategies aimed at minimising the impact of adverse weather conditions on communities across the state.

Rio emphasised the need for stronger coordination among government departments, infrastructure agencies and emergency response authorities to ensure prompt action during crises.

He underlined the importance of maintaining road connectivity, safeguarding public health and ensuring uninterrupted access to essential services and supplies during the monsoon season.

The Chief Minister said preparedness ahead of the monsoon remains a priority for the government, particularly in a hilly state like Nagaland where heavy rainfall frequently affects highways and public infrastructure.

Representatives of NHIDCL briefed the meeting on the condition of highway infrastructure and ongoing efforts to improve road safety and maintain connectivity during the rainy season. The review also covered healthcare preparedness and the availability of emergency support systems in vulnerable districts.

The state government reiterated its commitment to proactive planning and inter-departmental coordination to mitigate the impact of monsoon-related challenges and ensure public safety throughout the season.
