Highlights Growth of Sport Climbing in Manipur

Imphal: The Manipur Sport Climbing Association (MASCA) celebrated its 10th Foundation Day at the MMTA Complex, Minuthong, Imphal, with the participation of sport climbers, students, and sports enthusiasts.
The celebration was attended by Sunil Elangbam as Chief Guest, PH Chandrakumar Singh as Guest of Honour, and Soibam Inakhunba Singh as President of the function.

During the event, Dr. K. Romeo Meetei, National Adventure Awardee and International Judge, was felicitated for his outstanding contribution towards the promotion and development of adventure sports and sport climbing in Manipur and India.
Addressing the gathering, Sunil Elangbam appreciated MASCA’s decade-long efforts in promoting sport climbing across the state and nurturing young talents who have represented Manipur and the country at national and international levels. He assured support for the development of infrastructure, athlete training, and further promotion of the sport.

A one-day Sport Climbing Training Programme was also organised for school and college students, with around 200 participants taking part enthusiastically.
Dr. Romeo Meetei spoke on the history and growth of sport climbing globally, nationally, and in Manipur. He highlighted the sport’s inclusion in the Olympic movement and the potential of Manipuri athletes. He appealed for the installation of an international-standard climbing wall system at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex to provide better training facilities for climbers.
He also informed that Manipuri climber Maibam Chingkhei, a member of the Indian team, has qualified for the upcoming Asian Games, bringing pride to the state.
The programme concluded with a renewed commitment to strengthen sport climbing in Manipur and support young athletes in achieving greater success at national and international levels
