Silchar: Gurucharan University celebrated the 12th International Yoga Day with enthusiasm and active participation at its auditorium on Sunday, bringing together students, faculty members, NCC cadets, NSS volunteers, and staff members in a collective effort to promote health and well-being through yoga.
The programme was attended by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Niranjan Roy, who inaugurated the event by lighting the ceremonial lamp. The celebration also began with the auspicious blowing of the conch shell, setting a spiritual and positive tone for the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Roy spoke on this year’s International Yoga Day theme, “Yoga for Healthy Aging,” highlighting the role of yoga in maintaining physical fitness, mental wellness, and emotional balance throughout life.
He emphasized that regular yoga practice helps create harmony between the body, mind, and soul, and encouraged participants to embrace yoga as a lifelong habit for holistic health and graceful aging.
The event was also attended by members of the Nirmaya School of Yoga Education, an institution accredited by the Ministry of AYUSH.
The yoga session was jointly conducted by Yogacharya Rahul and Shatakshi Bhattacharjee. Participants actively took part in various yoga asanas, pranayama exercises, and Surya Namaskar demonstrations. The session aimed to raise awareness about the benefits of yoga and inspire individuals to adopt a healthy and balanced lifestyle.
The programme concluded with the chanting of the Shanti Mantra, creating an atmosphere of peace, positivity, and collective well-being among all present.
