Aizawl: More than 46,000 names have been deleted from Mizoram’s electoral rolls following the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), bringing the State’s total electorate down to 8,28,877, a senior election official said on Sunday.

Joint Chief Electoral Officer Ethel Rothangpuii said the revision exercise, which began on May 20, concluded successfully with the digitisation of all enumeration forms.

According to the official, a total of 46,191 names were removed from the electoral rolls for various reasons. These included 21,290 voters who had died, 13,992 who had permanently migrated to other States or abroad, 8,352 who could not be traced during the verification process, and 2,245 cases of duplicate enrolment.

The Special Intensive Revision was carried out to ensure that the electoral rolls remain accurate and up to date ahead of future elections. Officials said the exercise has helped improve the integrity of the voter database by removing ineligible and duplicate entries.
