Guwahati: Assam’s endurance athlete Ankita Konwar has created history by becoming the first Assamese woman and the first woman from Northeast India to successfully cross the English Channel.
Konwar achieved the feat as part of an international relay team that completed the iconic Dover-to-Calais crossing in 13 hours and 5 minutes. The accomplishment marks another significant milestone in her inspiring journey as an endurance athlete.
The English Channel crossing is regarded as one of the world’s most challenging open-water swimming events due to its cold waters, strong tides and unpredictable weather conditions. Ankita’s achievement has brought pride to Assam and the Northeast, further cementing her reputation for taking on some of the toughest endurance challenges.
