Agartala: Tripura Police seized approximately 39,200 sticks of illegal foreign cigarettes, valued at around Rs 6 lakh, during a special vehicle checking operation at Laljuri Check Post in North Tripura on Saturday.
According to police, the operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs. Personnel from Laljuri Out Post, led by the Officer-in-Charge, conducted a special vehicle checking drive at the check post and intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number TR-02N-0726.
During a thorough search of the vehicle, police recovered 196 bundles containing around 39,200 sticks of foreign cigarettes that had been concealed inside. The seized consignment is estimated to have a black-market value of approximately Rs 6 lakh.
Police have initiated legal proceedings, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the consignment and identify those involved in the smuggling network.
