Silchar: Nehal Bhattacharjee, a Ph.D. research scholar in the Department of Performing Arts at Assam University, Silchar, has been selected to represent India as a Cultural Diplomat at the prestigious “Days of International Theatre Cooperation” programme in Moscow, Russia.
Nehal is among only 30 young delegates selected from across the world to participate in the fully funded five-day international programme, scheduled from July 13 to 17, 2026. Organised under Russia’s presidential “New Generation” decree, the event will bring together performing artists and cultural officials from 11 countries to strengthen global cooperation in theatre and the performing arts.
The programme marks the 150th anniversary of the Union of Theatre Workers of the Russian Federation and will feature a series of high-level discussions, workshops and cultural exchanges.
As part of the event, Nehal will participate in the “Theatre Map of BRICS and CIS” roundtable, attend intensive workshops on project management and international artistic partnerships, visit the world-renowned Bolshoi Theatre and the Stanislavsky House-Museum, and engage in collaborative sessions with senior officials from the Russian Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Congratulating Nehal on the achievement, Assam University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant described the selection as a proud moment for the university. He said it is inspiring to see an Assam University scholar making an impact on the global stage and expressed confidence that Nehal would represent both the university and the country with distinction.
Nehal’s selection is being viewed as a significant recognition of Assam University’s growing contribution to the field of performing arts and international cultural exchange.
