Silchar: In a major crackdown on an inter-state narcotics trafficking network, Assam Rifles, in coordination with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Silchar, seized Yaba tablets worth around ₹168 crore in Cachar district.

The joint operation was conducted on Wednesday night in the Jujhang Pahar area of Lakhipur. According to a defence spokesman, security personnel recovered around 5.60 lakh Yaba tablets, weighing approximately 60 kg and valued at more than Rs.168 crore.

A suspected drug peddler was arrested in connection with the seizure. A truck allegedly used to transport the contraband was also seized.

Officials said the recovery was a major setback to an inter-state narcotics trafficking network operating in the region. They also highlighted the importance of coordinated operations between Assam Rifles and the DRI in curbing the illegal drug trade.

The investigation is now expected to focus on identifying the source of the Yaba tablets, their intended destination and other people allegedly involved in the trafficking network.
