New Delhi: WhatsApp has started rolling out a new bill payment feature in India, allowing users to pay a wide range of bills directly through the messaging app. The new service enables users to pay electricity, gas, water, FASTag, insurance, credit card and loan bills, among others.

Powered by Bharat Connect (BBPS), the service covers around 22,722 billers across 30 categories. Users can access the feature through the rupee (₹) icon on the WhatsApp home screen. Payments can be made using UPI, credit cards or debit cards.

The feature is being rolled out in phases and is expected to reach both Android and iOS users over the coming weeks. WhatsApp has also seen strong growth in UPI payments in India. The platform processed around 150 million UPI transactions in June 2026, more than four times the 37 million transactions recorded in June 2024.

The new bill payment service is expected to further expand WhatsApp’s role as a digital payments platform in India.
