Silchar: The Heritage Club of Assam University, Silchar, in collaboration with SPICMACAY, the Ministry of Education and the SRF Foundation, organised an evening of Indian classical music and dance at the Bipin Chandra Pal Auditorium on Sunday.

The programme drew a full-house audience comprising students, faculty members and music enthusiasts. Prof. Tarun Bikash Sukai, faculty supervisor of the Heritage Club, delivered the welcome address and introduced the artistes to the audience. Shri I.B. Ubadhia, General Manager of Rosekandy Tea Estate and Professor of Practice at Assam University, attended the programme as the chief guest and felicitated the artistes on stage.

The cultural evening featured performances by Sattriya danseuse Dr. Meernanda Borthakur and Hindustani vocalist Pdt. Arnab Chatterjee, accompanied by supporting musicians. Dr. Borthakur presented three Sattriya recitals, with Shri Gautam Bayan, Shri Dwipendu Sharma and Shri Biswajit Bordoloi providing musical support. During her presentation, she also spoke about the origins of Sattriya and its founder, Srimanta Sankardev.

This was followed by a Hindustani vocal recital by Pdt. Arnab Chatterjee. He was accompanied by senior tabla artiste Shri Sudhir Kumar Ghorai and Shri Sandeep Bhattacharjee on harmonium. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Tarun Bikash Sukai. He expressed gratitude to the artistes, members of the Heritage Club, student volunteers and the audience for making the programme a success.
