NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Friday directed Meta Platforms to immediately remove objectionable social media content featuring a morphed image of a woman alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Justice Girish Kathpalia observed that the case involved an “extraordinary position” as it concerned not only the woman but also the Prime Minister of the country. The court also directed the Delhi Police to ensure protection for the woman, who has alleged that she received threats after the circulation of the images.

The court issued notices to Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das, Abhijit Dipke, Ashutosh Ranka and Ratna Singh following the woman’s plea alleging that they circulated her morphed and explicit images with the Prime Minister. The allegations have not been established by the court.

The court directed Meta to take down the objectionable content within 24 hours. The Delhi Police was also asked to take steps to protect the woman and keep her residential address confidential.
