GUWAHATI — In a major push toward ease of doing business and governance digitisation, the Government of Assam has transitioned all tourist accommodation registration and renewal processes entirely online via the state’s flagship Sewa Setu portal.

Launched on World Tourism Day (September 27), the initiative represents a collaborative effort between the Department of Tourism and Sewa Setu. The digital mechanism operates under the newly notified Assam Tourism Accommodation (Development & Registration) Rules, 2026, replacing outdated compliance frameworks with a streamlined, single-window system.

• End-to-End Online Workflow: Operators of hotels, resorts, homestays, guest houses, and service apartments can now submit initial applications and renewal requests digitally without physical visits to government offices.
• Single-Window Clearance: Eliminates the bottleneck of seeking sequential clearances across multiple civic and administrative bodies.
• Three-Year Auto-Renewal: Under the updated regulations, registered units will benefit from automated renewals every three years, significantly cutting recurring bureaucratic delays.
• Boost to Grassroots Hospitality: The streamlined protocol is designed to encourage formal onboarding of rural homestays and community eco-resorts across prominent circuits such as Kaziranga, Majuli, and Sivasagar, drawing greater private investment into regional hospitality.

The move marks another milestone in the Assam government’s mission to digitise citizen and business services, expanding hospitality infrastructure ahead of the peak winter travel season.
