Itanagar | An Assam Rifles personnel was killed after a patrol team came under attack near the India-Myanmar border in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district on Tuesday morning, officials said.

The incident took place around 6.30 a.m. near Nampong Nallah under Nampong Circle, where Assam Rifles personnel were conducting a routine patrol in an area where fencing work is underway along the international border.

The deceased has been identified as Havildar Jankhokai Kuki, 42. According to preliminary information, the attack is suspected to have been carried out by cadres of the NSCN-K-YA (Yung Aung faction).

Following the attack, security forces launched an operation in the area to track down the suspected attackers and secure the border region, officials said. Further details about the circumstances of the attack and the movement of the suspected militants were awaited.

The incident comes amid heightened security along the India-Myanmar border, where fencing work is being undertaken to strengthen surveillance and check unauthorised movement. Security forces have maintained a heightened alert in the area following the attack.
