Silchar: Radhamadhab College, Silchar, held a formal ceremony on Wednesday to distribute free textbooks to students under the Assam Government’s education scheme. The programme, organised in the college auditorium, was led by Acting Principal Dr. Arundhati Dutta Choudhury and saw the participation of faculty, students, and distinguished guests.

Textbooks were handed over to students of Higher Secondary First and Second Year during the event. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Dutta Choudhury stated that the distribution was slightly delayed due to the extended admission process for both the Higher Secondary First Year and the newly introduced Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUG) in Arts and Commerce streams, which concluded on June 24. .

She acknowledged that admission-related issues had affected many colleges across the state this year, with some students unable to secure seats owing to lower results.

Dr. Dutta Choudhury highlighted the various benefits offered by government educational institutions, including free textbook schemes and welfare projects like “Niyut Moina.” She urged students to make the most of these opportunities while also fulfilling their responsibilities towards the college.

She called upon them to strive for academic excellence, maintain discipline, and refrain from negative habits such as chewing gutkha and spitting on campus.

Issuing a stern warning, the principal declared the college campus an intoxicant-free zone. She made it clear that any student found violating the ban on addictive substances would face strict disciplinary action.

Vice Principal Dr. Rahul Chakraborty also spoke on the occasion, advising students to use mobile phones responsibly. He informed the students that departmental WhatsApp groups had been created to streamline communication.

Those who had not yet joined these groups were urged to do so promptly, as important information related to examinations and class schedules is shared through these platforms. Dr. Chakraborty stressed the need for students to develop a sense of accountability and contribute positively to the college community.

The programme also featured addresses by IQAC Coordinator Dr. Sonali Choudhury and former Principal Dr. Debashish Roy. Among the faculty members present were Prof. Dr. Santosh Bora, Dr. Nabanita Debnath, Namrata Nath, and Surabhi Ghosh.
