Diphu : In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Khatkhati Police intercepted a white Toyota Fortuner bearing registration number CH 04 L 0888 and seized 10.937 kilograms of opium along with ?1,10,000 in cash during a routine checking operation at Khatkhati Police checkpoint today, few hours earlier.
The operation led to the arrest of two individuals identified as Daljit Singh and Harjit Singh, both hailing from Punjab. The duo was allegedly transporting the contraband through the inter-state border, signaling the involvement of well-coordinated drug trafficking networks operating beyond regional boundaries.
Police sources confirmed that the narcotics were neatly packed and concealed within the vehicle to avoid detection. A preliminary investigation suggests that the opium was sourced from a northeastern state and was en route to Punjab for distribution.
This seizure marks yet another milestone in the Assam Police’s relentless drive against illegal drug trafficking in the region. Authorities have intensified surveillance across vulnerable border checkpoints in recent months in response to rising cases of narcotic smuggling.
The arrested individuals are currently in police custody and undergoing interrogation. Further investigations are underway to uncover the broader network involved in the illicit drug trade.
