The people of the country in the coming days will observe our political leaders with the microscopic lens as information now is available abundantly with the advent of the information boom. ‘Khela Hobe’ had become a synonym of West Bengal election and was the most popular word in the social media conversation past few months. The tempo by political parties was high and loud, indifferent to the prevailing pandemic where citizens were mesmerized with narratives and the BJP calling for ‘Parivartan’ (change) and TMC was fighting to retain their dominance and seeking power for the third consecutive term.

Assam is the only state in this election where BJP was trying to retain power which they could but was not a cakewalk but had to fight for it. The development politics in Assam could help the party sail in and polarisation was not the main narrative. Development politics equally worked for TMC in West Bengal, (Ma, Mati, Manush) and the narrative ‘Banglar Mey’ (Bengal’s Girl) did connect with people of the state whereas polarisation politics by BJP did not work.

The people of the country in the coming days will observe our political leaders with the microscopic lens as information now is available abundantly with the advent of the information boom. No longer any narrative on the basis of religion, language, caste will be having its impact that much as it was earlier.

Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal and the duo of Sarbananda Sonowal and Himanta Biswa Sarma in Assam worked for their respective governments to come back to power again is only because of their work and not on the party’s political narrative.

The narrative of “Congress Mukt Bharat” itself is self-defeating as our Constitution gives the right to everyone to have their political opinion. ‘The People’ are supreme and let them judge their political representatives on the basis of actions of the ward commissioners, MLAs & MPs and not on any big slogan…
