Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma participated in the last day of the show of power in Silchar where a massive crowd has turned up in the heart of the Silchar town at around 8 PM in a roadshow by Sarma along with the BJP Silchar candidate Dipayan Chakraborty and Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy.

Today was a crucial day for BJP to muster and showcase the strength of its support and both sides of the narrow Silchar road was full packed with an expecting crowd. BJP supporters were seen in full enthusiasm to show their strength.

Tomorrow Rahul Gandhi will also be addressing a public meeting in Silchar.

Silchar constituency has become a prestige issue for BJP and particularly for Dr. Sarma as the sitting MLA Dilip Paul left the party and is contesting as an independent candidate which many feels will be detrimental in the outcome of the election result.

However, I spoke with Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma amidst his rally and Sarma right away said that the BJP candidate will win by 60000 votes. When we asked him that Dilip Paul has levelled serious allegation against BJP party leaders, Sarma stated that Dilip Paul is a by-product of BJP, without the party, he is a nobody. Dr Sarma also echoed that Dilip Paul has not done any work for Silchar and whatever development had happened is because of the government initiative.

He believes that the people of Silchar will vote decisively and Congress cannot muster any advantage of the situation created by the disgruntled candidates. Dilip Paul is only trying to help Ajmal, Sarma commented.

He further said that the vision for Silchar is an ongoing process and development will be undertaken further under a dynamic MLA Dipayan.

Dr. Sarma avoided commenting on the charges levelled by Dilip Paul by stating that any development work done was by the Government and Dilip Paul never used to meet any Ministers for his constituency work.

The contest in the Silchar constituency is an interesting one as BJP has heavily gambled on its brand and has not given any importance to candidate stature or lineage.
