1. What is your advice to parents?

  • Parents should spend quality time with their children.
  • Examine and support their coping strategies.
  • Teach them that they do not have to feel obligated or pressured to fit in with the crowd.
  • Boost their confidence by words encouragement.
  • Teach them healthy techniques to reduce anxiety.
  • Teach them to show love and care to the members of the family both young and old.

2. Advice to schoolteachers.

  • Should be patient, a good listener and cater to the needs of the students.
  • Above all the lessons to be taught should be with clarity and simple and easy to learn rather than making it complicated.
  • Create interest Teachers should find out creative ways to keep the attention span and focus on the lesson as well as the learning process.
  • Teaching methodology should be different each day for eg. discussion method, group activity, self-learning/Work Sheet pattern etc. which could be alternated from time to time.

3. Recognition.

Recognition is important. A child sitting in the class everyday likes to be recognized not only by the Roll No. or marks but by the name, talents, abilities, leadership quality, sportsmanship etc. Every child is unique. There is no Xerox copy of anyone, but I would like to mention recognition should not be our only focus. When we work wholeheartedly and sincerely in any field contributing to the lives of people we meet and be humanistic in our approach. Surely recognition will follow.

4. Early Days.

School days were difficult days as I was a very sickly child and visited the hospital frequently. But worked hard at each stage of college days at Shantiniketan,

Vishwa – Bharati University and excelled and topped the University and was awarded the National Scholarship; Confidence and belief in myself was built up and I kept moving forward to this day. I remember a powerful statement made by my teacher when I was in grade 7 “You can lead”. This kept ringing inside me and has led me where I am today.

5. Teaching Profession.

As a child, I watched my mother who was a Nursery teacher for 25 years. She was my source of inspiration to be a teacher. Her love for children and the bond that she developed between a teacher and student was remarkable. The impact that a teacher makes in the life of a child in builds a good human being, society, country and a nation. Teachers are people who build lives.

6. School Education.

To meet the changing dynamics of the Population’s requirement with regards to quality education innovation and research we need to equip students with necessary skills and knowledge. Many changes have been brought in the Education system for good.

  • Importance of the use of Technology in the teaching and learning process.
  • Emphasis on Skill development along with the teaching of content.
  • Integration of Subjects like Arts.
  • Vocational Courses added as an additional subject.
  • Emphasis on Physical and Health Education.
  • Experiential learning.

7. Small Improvements.

  • Hands on experience – Primary classes – Students should be taught to use their five senses in learning about things around them.
  • Group activities that develop a sense of belonging and teamwork.
  • Enrichment classes for teachers from time to time so that they can be motivators and encouragers to the students.
  • Celebrate days with students – Children’s Day, Teachers’ Day, Earth Day, Class get together and fellowship.
  • Be connected with the Natural World and its environment
  • The Policy laid out needs to be implemented wholeheartedly.
  • There is a need for proper monitoring and supervision.
  • Need for a Holistic approach.

9. Future goals.

  • Started a new project of a new school at a different site with just the beginners class i.e. Nursery Hoping to work it through to Secondary classes one step at a time.
  • To be a resource person helping new teachers and mentoring them.
  • To also encourage students to enhance their reading skill with understanding and be an independent learner. Instil a love for learning.

10. It is so rewarding to meet the past pupils who have become responsible as well as established in their various careers. I often tell the students I meet that they are the living trophies which shine much brighter than the trophies kept on the shelf.

11. Having various roles to play in a day. I am mindful of not neglecting my family life nor my work life. Both are equally important. I find time to make everyone around me feel happy and blessed. I also spend time refreshing myself by reading my Bible and listening to Gospel Songs. I realize that so many lives around me depend on what I do and the way I do. Every opportunity to serve at Home or Workplace is a blessing. I am reminded of a quote “Too blessed to be stressed” this keeps me balanced.
