Size Really Doesn’t Matter

4 - minutes read |

We live in a society where people can’t survive if they’re not judging the next person. We are judged for everthing we do. Skinny or fat you are judged, if dressed up, you’re conceited. If you’re dressed down, people say you’ve let yourself go. If you speak your mind, they say you’re rude, if you don’t they judge you as snobbish.

One can’t do anything without being criticised. Jeesha Chowdhury, who is Plus Size Miss India 2019 shares her journey with Vivek Deepak and her life clearly says that, “It is all about loving your self”. Love me or hate me, but you will never change me.

Q How did you start your journey?

I always wanted to be a part of the fashion and glamour industry. I am a very fashion forward girl and started as a fashion designer. I feel when a women like me steps out in the market it gets very challenging to find basic clothings like lingerie to fancy clothings. I want to start a brand that has all sizes. I want all body types to be catered. My modelling career started when I started experimenting with fashion and started styling and designing for women of different shapes and sizes including mine. I am glad that the work I started is being appreciated and then slowly slowly I started working as a plus size model and a runway model. I am really greatful to Neeraj Sachdeva Sir, Sheetal Ma’am, Pujan Ma’am, Akhil Sir, Ankita Ma’am and fashion brands like United Colours of Benetton, Parfait, Nubella, Amydus, Paranjal and Plumpf for supporting me and giving me a platform to move ahead in life.

Q How are you feeling after making India proud?

I feel really honoured to have represented India at an unique platform that was all about celebrating diversity. It was a dream come true to represent my nation globally and win so many titles- MS BEAUTY WITH BRAINS, MS BEAUTY OF SUBSTANCE, MS MEDIA’S CHOICE. Women from different countries had participated- England, Australia, Ukraine, Africa ,Lesotho and India. I feel happy that I am the face and voice of Indian plus size women and It brings me joy when I am able to inspire other women. If I can do it so…why can’t you? Women should stop being insecure about their bodies and external appearance. Celebrate yourself the way you are.

Q How do you deal with body shaming?

I have been a victim of body shaming and it is confidence crushing. Body shaming is a serious issue that should be strictly addressed too. Since childhood I have been bodyshamed about my weight, height, features, mole and this really disgusts me when people think it’s ok to bodyshame. I am beautiful and I don’t need to fit into the so called superficial beauty standards of the society.

Yes there was a time I used to get depressed about such comments but I am glad that I no more care about those negativities. I really pitty people who believe beauty is all about external looks. I am more than my weight, height, age and looks.

Q What is beauty to you?

Beauty to me is about having a big heart and a golden soul. Beauty is about being able to make others happy by sharing your gifts and talent with them. Beauty to me is sitting down with my clients and talking about their bodytype and making them understand the importanace of knowing their bodytype and loving their body. All bodies are beautiful and deserve to be respected. Inshort beauty to me is about educating, inpiring and empowering others to bring out the best in them.

I would like to tell everyone to always believe in yourself and take care of your body. Stay  happy, and live a healthy life, eat healthy and spread positivity and love everywhere. Do not entertain any sort of negativity in life. Live the life you want to live, love your body as self love is the best kind of love. Make this world a better place to live in by helping each other by living in a clean, healthy-fit, happy and positive environment.

Q. Who is your inspiration?

My inspiration are all those women who choose not to be held back by their insecurities and take a stand for themselves and never settle down for anything less than what they deserve in life. I am really inspired by women who are confident and brave, women who are intelligent and unstoppable.

Q. Is plus size fit?

People have different body types which function differently. The whole idea is about self love and body positivity. Be any size it is important to eat healthy and stay fit but that doesn’t mean that I don’t  workout or eat healthy. This is my body type and I workout daily to keep fit. It is really very disturbing when people in the name of health bodyshame me. I love my body and I do my best to keep my body fit and fine. Body shaming is very negative and depressing issue. That is why I support self love, because a person who loves him/her self can never go wrong with doing what is best for them.
