Fair Begins at Historic Silcoorie Temple

Silchar: The three-day annual Baram Baba Puja and Fair, one of South Assam’s oldest and most revered cultural traditions, began on Tuesday at the historic Baram Baba Temple in Silcoorie. The inauguration ceremony was led by Brahmachari Gunsindhu Maharaj, head of Bharat Seva Sangh’s Silchar branch.

Marking a key highlight of the day, Assam Labour Minister Rupesh Gowala inaugurated the newly constructed Jagannath Community Hall within the temple premises.

The event witnessed the presence of several dignitaries, including Minister Kaushik Rai, Members of Parliament Parimal Suklabaidya and Kanad Purkayastha, Cachar District Commissioner Mridul Yadav (IAS), Superintendent of Police Partha Protim Das (IPS), MLA Nihar Ranjan Das, and BJP Cachar District President Rupam Saha.

A special meeting was held at the new hall to commemorate the occasion, where the guests extended their wishes for the successful conduct of the puja and fair.

The temple complex has been decked out with elaborate decorations, and a variety of stalls have been set up, attracting devotees and visitors from across the region. The fair, which began on Tuesday, will continue till Friday midnight, bringing together faith, festivity, and community spirit.
