Owing to violence in the state, approximately 5,127 hectares of agricultural land have been affected which in result resulted in losing around 15437 metric tonnes of paddy crops valued at around Rs 38.6 crore.

 The government on Monday announced that a total of 3,483 farmers had been compensated Rs. 18.37 crore under the first list of recommended farmers.

 Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Monday distributed benefits under the Compensatory Package for Farmers affected by unprecedented conflict under the scheme of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India at the Durbar Hall of the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.

 As per Phase – I of the compensatory crop package, a total of 3,483 farmers are being compensated with the amount calculated against each of them out of Rs. 18.37 lakh under the first list of recommended farmers.

 Affected farmers from 10 districts from both the valley and hills including Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, Chandel, etc. are being compensated.

 Out of the Rs 38.6 crore approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), an amount of Rs 18.91 has been sanctioned and a total of Rs 18.37 crore has been released to the respective District Commissioners.

 Under the recommended list, a total of 1,137 farmers from Churachandpur district which is the highest count of affected persons from among all the 10 districts are being compensated.

 From the Bishnupur district, 1,031 farmers are compensated while 360 farmers from Imphal East will receive compensation.

 A total of 272 farmers from Kangpokpi and 231 from Kakching are also receiving the compensation.

 Further, 199 farmers from Imphal West and 142 farmers from Chandel are getting compensated, while 51 from Jiribam, 35 from Tengnoupal, and 25 from Thoubal are receiving the compensation as well.

 The violence erupted between the Meiteis and Kukis on May 3, 2023, and over 220 persons lost their lives.
