Dhubri: A 60-year-old shopkeeper has been arrested in Assam’s Dhubri district for allegedly sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl at his shop in Chitalkati village.

The accused, identified as Juran Ali, was arrested within hours after the child’s family lodged a complaint with the police on September 4.

According to police, the child was sent for a medical examination following the complaint. The examination indicated alleged sexual assault and physical injuries.

Ali was subsequently arrested and produced before the court, which remanded him to judicial custody.

Police have launched an investigation and are collecting evidence in connection with the case. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
