In the second phase of the parliamentary election, election was held in Diphu Parliamentary constituency along with eighty eight seats today. Diphu seat encompasses three hill districts of Assam, i.e. Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao.

Within this parliamentary constituency six Legislative Assembly constituencies are included; they are Diphu, Bokajan, Howraghat, Ronghang, Amri and Haflong.

According to the report received at 6.18 pm from the government source, the overall poll percentage recorded is 70.67%. Bokajan recorded 66.53% polling, Howraghat 72.6%, Diphu 70.2%, Ronghang 65.20%, Amri 67.01%, Haflong 73.35%.

Although brisk polling was visible till 10.00am the next two hours witnessed sluggish vote casting; main contender of this seat, BJP nominee Amarsing Tisso casted his vote in his native village Lungnit, around twenty five kilometers from Diphu.

Later interacting with the media he said that around nine lakhs voters will cast their vote today and Bhe expects  that 80% voters will support his party.

Congress nominee Joy Ram Engleng, casted his vote in Dalimbari village of Amri Legislative Assembly constituency, Engleng while claiming that BJP’s misrule in the hills of Assam has compelled the average people to oust BJP from the hills.

JI Kathar of All Party Hill Leaders Conference has claimed that ragging has taken place in a few polling stations of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao. He has told the local media that he will receive nearly five lakh votes.

Till filing of this report, no untoward incidents have been reported. Polling was peaceful by and large.
