Demands Flood Relief for Affected Families

Guwahati: Raijor Dal president and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi began a day-long hunger strike in Guwahati on Thursday, demanding enhanced financial assistance and compensation for people affected by the recent floods in Upper Assam.
Gogoi alleged that several flood-affected families were yet to receive the financial assistance announced by the government. He has demanded immediate assistance of Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000 for affected families and Rs 10 lakh compensation for families whose homes or property were damaged in the floods.
The protest began in the morning and is scheduled to continue till 4 pm. Gogoi has also demanded compensation for affected business establishments and further measures for the rehabilitation of flood-hit people.
He said the agitation would continue if the demands were not addressed and announced that Raijor Dal would organise a larger protest in Guwahati on September 23 if necessary.
