Guwahati: The Assam Cabinet on Monday approved the Assam Municipal Corporation Election (Amendment) Rules, 2026, aimed at streamlining matters related to municipal corporation elections in the state.

According to the decision, the amendment will empower the District Judge’s Court of the concerned district to deal with matters relating to municipal corporation elections.

The move is expected to provide a clearer legal mechanism for handling election-related matters and disputes concerning municipal corporations.

The amendment comes shortly after the first Silchar Municipal Corporation election, which was held on October 3.
