Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday rolled out the distribution of scooters under the Dr. Banikanta Kakati Merit Award 2025, benefiting 11,250 students who scored 80 percent and above in the Higher Secondary examination.
Speaking to reporters after the launch, the Chief Minister said the award, which began as a way to recognise academic achievement, has grown into a programme that motivates students and strengthens a culture of excellence across the state.
He said the initiative aims to give students greater mobility and confidence as they continue their education. “Giving wings to the dreams of our young ones, this initiative will encourage students to keep performing well and inspire others to strive for excellence,” Sarma said.
The scheme is part of the government’s broader effort to support meritorious students and ensure that academic performance is recognised and rewarded in a meaningful way.
