Sarma said the brief halt had no connection with Chakraborty’s subsequent death. However, he acknowledged that ambulances and ordinary commuters should not be stopped for VIP convoys.

The incident occurred during the Chief Minister’s visit to Silchar. Chakraborty was being taken to Silchar Medical College and Hospital in an ambulance when it was reportedly stopped for the movement of the Chief Minister’s convoy.

Following the incident, four police personnel were suspended. Sarma also ordered an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the stoppage.
