Guwahati: The death toll from this year’s floods in Assam has risen to 80 after two more people lost their lives in Sivasagar district, even as the overall flood situation continued to improve across the state.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, both fatalities were reported from Sivasagar during the past 24 hours. One of the victims was a boy who drowned in floodwaters.

Despite a gradual improvement in flood conditions, nearly 2.12 lakh people continue to be affected across eight districts, including Golaghat, Sivasagar, Biswanath, Charaideo, Kamrup (Metropolitan), Jorhat, Dhemaji, and Nagaon.

Official data shows that floodwaters are still inundating 21 revenue circles and 437 villages, disrupting normal life and affecting thousands of families. Authorities continue to monitor the situation while relief and rehabilitation efforts remain underway in the affected areas.

The state government and disaster management agencies are carrying out relief operations and damage assessments as water levels continue to recede in several parts of Assam.
