Arrests Self-Styled Commander in Manipur

KRC TIMES Manipur Bureau

Imphal: Assam Rifles has uncovered the existence of a previously unknown underground outfit identified as the “Zogam Liberation Front” (ZLF) following the arrest of its self-styled commander during a joint operation in Lamjang village in Manipur.

According to reports from the 5th Assam Rifles, the operation was carried out as part of an ongoing crackdown against anti-social and underground elements allegedly operating in the region under the guise of militant organisations.

The arrested individual has been identified as Vicent Pumzamang Taithul, 41, who was described by security agencies as the self-styled Commander-in-Chief of the ZLF. Officials alleged that Taithul was involved in extortion activities, recruitment of cadres through internally displaced persons (IDP) settlements, and the smuggling of arms and narcotics.

Security agencies said the operation forms part of intensified efforts to curb insurgent and criminal activities in vulnerable areas of the state amid the continuing law and order challenges in Manipur. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the network, activities and operational reach of the alleged outfit, officials added.
