GUWAHATI: Assam is set to get its fourth agricultural college, with the state Cabinet approving the allotment of 84.6 acres of land at Patharkandi in the Barak Valley for the proposed institution.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the decision on September 30 through a post on X, saying the proposed college would be the first agricultural college in the Barak Valley.
The new institution is expected to provide young people in the region with opportunities to pursue higher education in agriculture and contribute to research and innovation in the sector.
The government said the initiative would also strengthen agricultural education and create greater opportunities for students interested in agriculture and allied fields in the Barak Valley.
