Silchar: Assam University has for the first time introduced a supplementary examination system for its undergraduate, postgraduate, and integrated courses. The decision follows a year-long campaign by the Assam University Students’ Union (2024–25).
According to the notification issued on August 6, the supplementary exams will take place 45 to 60 days after the final end-semester examinations. Final-year students are expected to benefit most, as the system will allow them to clear pending papers without losing an academic year. Students can appear in a maximum of N/2+1 papers, where N is the total number of semesters in the course.
Former Students’ Union president Shubham Roy, who played a key role in securing the decision, had submitted a memorandum to the university last year and later, along with AGS Kuldeep, presented the proposal before the Academic Council. The move was approved by the Executive Council before being formally adopted.
“This initiative will save students from wasting a year over minor setbacks,” Roy said. “They can now move ahead with higher studies or careers without delay. It’s a landmark step that will shape the future of many students.”
He also thanked the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, and Controller of Examinations for their support in bringing the reform into effect.
