At least 4 killed, 5 injuries in Manipur ethnic violence

Imphal : At least 4 persons have been confirmed killed and 5 others injuries in the intermittent gunfights on Thursday, the 3rd day of the exchange of fire between the warring groups of the ethnic violence at Narenseina area an inter districts of Bishnupur and Churachandpur in Manipur.

Two Meties lost their lives and an equal number of Kukis also succumbed to their injuries in the exchange of firings at the interdistrict areas of Naranseina, Thamnapokpi, Ngangkha Lawai, and Khoirentak on Thursday. Two Kukis, who sustained splinter injuries during firing and attack succumbed to their wounds on Thursday.

The number of killed persons would be increasing as the bodies of the slain persons are still unable to be recovered owing to intermittent gun battles.

At least five persons got injuries in the firing and they were rushed to the hospitals in Imphal for medical treatment. Moirangthem Ropen, (44), son of M. Commander from Itam Nungoi Yourabung, and Pebam Deban, (46), son of late P. Ibochou Thamnapokpi Makha Leikai Ward No. 5 succumbed to their injuries when they were hit by bomb splinters.

For the Kuki community, one LS Mangboi, a popular songwriter and one Richard Hemkholin Guite, a village defense volunteer also lost their lives. The exchange of firing is still continuing at the time of filing this news report.
