Badarpur: In a proud moment for the Barak Valley, the Saraswati Dance Group from Badarpur has reached the semi-finals of India’s Talent Fight Season 6, marking a big step onto the national stage.

The group delivered a striking performance on December 24 in Roorkee, Uttarakhand, where they presented the traditional Dhunuchi dance with a fresh touch. Their act mixed innovation with cultural roots, catching the attention of judges and audience alike.

Formed in 2022 under the direction of Kanu Dey and Shyam Dey, the group set out with a clear goal. They wanted to revive the fading Dhunuchi dance and bring it back to a wider audience. Over time, they added new elements while keeping the core tradition alive, which helped shape their unique style.

Speaking about the journey, founder Shyam Dey said reaching the semi-finals feels like a big win for Badarpur. He spoke about the struggles and limited opportunities in the region but said their connection to Barak Valley kept them going. He added that hard work, setbacks, and constant practice pushed the group forward.

He also had a message for young talents in the region. He said success comes from consistency, not just talent. He urged them to stay connected to their culture and use it as their strength.

The group has also made history by becoming one of the first to present Dhunuchi dance on a television reality show. Their performance will soon be aired on 9XM, giving the traditional art form a national platform.

Adding to their achievements, the group recently received the Nexus Excellence Award 2025, organised by the US Art Gallery, for excellence in the field of dance.

Now, all eyes are on the results as the group hopes to enter the grand finale, where noted choreographer Geeta Kapur will be among the judges. For Badarpur and the Barak Valley, their journey has already become a story of pride and inspiration.
